The thought of our loved one sitting alone in a hospital room with no visitors is heartbreaking. For Lucy, the thought of her step-dad alone in an empty hospital room broke her heart. When she received word his health was declining, she knew she had to get there. Unfortunately she and her partner were unable to afford flight tickets to get there. The social worker suggested they apply to Give A Mile.
Lucy wrote: “Niko was there for me during a hard period in my life, he was a big part of my highschool experience, it hurts me to know he is alone all day every day in an empty hospital room, I would love to go spend a few days with him, to cheer him up, make new memories and for him to get to know my boyfriend who he would adore.”
Mac wrote: “He means so much to her and I really want to see him and get to know him. Talk about the coming baby and support new family before he’s gone.”
After meeting the criteria, Give A Mile was able to grant both Lucy and Mac flights of compassion so they can be with her step-dad in his final days.
Give A Mile is a registered charity in both Canada and the US. Our mission is to provide flights for people at end-of-life to connect with their loved ones for a final goodbye.
