Holiday Campaign 2018 – If You Could Have One Last Wish…

A woman, Margaret Ross, moves from PEI to BC to be close to a son and his family. Shortly after, the 55 yr-old is diagnosed with lung cancer – Stage 4 that had moved to her brain and leg.

Time is running out and Margaret’s last wish is to spend time together as a family with her other three sons and a grandson from the East Coast. A long-time friend in PEI immediately sets up a GoFundMe® campaign for two tickets, an anonymous donor pays for another family ticket, Give A Mile steps in to provide the final flight of compassion to bring them all together in BC and the wish is granted. Aug 26^th – 31^st the family is together on Vancouver Island, for the first time in 11 years.

We would not allow [cancer] to enter into the rest of the week; it was awesome. I truly didn’t think my family could get closer but, you know what, we sure have.’’ – Margaret Ross

This is exactly the type of story that the Give A Mile Holiday Spirit of Giving Campaign wants to re-create. In our 5^th year since inception we have surpassed 500 flights of compassion awarded.

Calling all (super) heroes! We are looking to add to our repeat and new list of Flight Heroes, aiming for 30 during the Oct – Dec Holiday Campaign. Get a group of friends together, make it an office party charity, it’s an easy proposition to get 25 contributors to raise 25,000 loyalty miles (or $40 will purchase approx. 1,000 air miles). Holiday gifts of your unused loyalty points (Aeroplan, Starwood, Marriott and Amex Rewards, etc.), and monetary or time offerings are easily done through the Give A Mile website DONATE NOW page. These will help us make our target to raise funds and points for 50 flights of compassion during Holiday Campaign 2018. Fully 100% of funds and points are applied to flights of compassion and related taxes/fees for specific flight stories or in the general pool to be applied against any flight.
