“My most sincere and grateful thanks to the wonderful team at the Give A Mile program! My name is Shelley Krastel, and I would like to share my experience with the amazing team at the Give A Mile flight program.

We all know of some famous fours, many were worn in the sport world. There is Bobby Orr in hockey, Lou Gehrig in baseball, and Brett Favre from the NFL.

We received the following flight request: “My name is Rey and my wife Ellen and I have 2 children, Darrell, age 11 and Aaron, age 7. 2 years ago our lives were very different.

  Best friends Shannon, left, and Nicky were able to spend time together thanks to Give A Mile. For 26 years, best friends Nicky and Shannon were like sisters.

This is Give A Mile’s busiest time: the Holiday Giving Campaign in November and December of each year. Once again we have set high targets to raise 3 Million travel miles and dollars in support of 50 flights of compassion.

This picture from August 2012 tells the story. It shows a smiling, healthy woman on the couch, surrounded by children and grandchildren. And her son Sichang Li is smiling too (front row, 2nd from left).

Founded in late 2012 by crowd-funding flights of compassion with unused travel miles, a 100% volunteer organization, Give A Mile celebrated a big “300 flights (and counting..)” milestone in early 2017.

When Tracy wrote from Calgary to describe her mother-in-law Charlene, she talked about how important Grandma had been to their three boys, her boundless generosity towards others, and how much of an example of strength she had been for Tracy personally.
