When you go abroad to study, you never expect to get news that a loved one has entered the end of life stage. For both Etzaina and Etzerson, they never thought they would receive a call that their father was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and was terminal. Both studying in different countries as full-time students, they didn’t have the funds to afford a plane ticket home.
After Etzaina did a Google search, she stumbled upon Give a Mile. They both submitted applications.
Etzaina wrote: “I want to have the chance to tell him how much he means to me. I wanna hug him one last time. I just want to be there for him. And for my mom.”
Etzerson wrote: “This is my last opportunity to try and connect with him. If I don’t, I think this could leave me with remorse and affect my whole life.”
After meeting the criteria, Give a Mile was able to grant both of them flights of compassion to reunite with their parents for one final time as a family.
Etzaina wrote back after hearing the news: “thank you so much for that opportunity!! It means the world to us.”
