“We Finally Got to Hug Each Other”: Two Sisters’ Final Visit

Flight Story #1261

Edmonton, Alberta ➝ Sydney, Nova Scotia

Andrea is living with stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her neck. She will be in treatment for the rest of her life, receiving chemo almost every week. Her only sister, who lives across the country, is now in the hospital with stage 4 ovarian cancer. The chance to see each other was slipping away—until your generosity changed everything.
“She’s my only sister and lives so far away,” Andrea wrote. “We haven’t been able to hug each other or cry together in person through this all in 2 years. I need to hold her before she’s gone.”
Since Andrea lives on AISH due to her illness, a flight wasn’t something she could afford. But thanks to your donated miles and support, Andrea was able to fly from Edmonton to Cape Breton. She got the hug she had waited two years for. She was able to sit beside her sister—laugh, cry, and simply be together in a moment neither of them will ever forget. Andrea’s parents also live only a few hours away from her sister, making this flight a catalyst to a reunion for a family walking through the darkest of times together.
When Andrea got the news that her flight was approved, she shared something that we now want to pass along to you—the ones who made it happen:

“I will never forget the kindness from your organization.”

Because of your kindness, Andrea got to say goodbye not just with words, but with presence. From all of us at Give A Mile—and especially from Andrea and her family—thank you for turning your generosity into a moment of connection that will live in their hearts forever.

Every donation helps people reach their loved ones for one last hug, smile, and farewell.
