No matter where life takes us, we always have that one special friendship. For Daysi, she has that special friendship with her childhood best friend. When Daysi heard her friend’s cancer returned and was leaving behind a 4-year-old son, she knew she needed to be by her friend’s side. Unfortunately, the cost of a flight ticket was in the way. Another friend of Daysi’s shared Give a Mile’s link with her.
Daysi wrote: “We have been friends since I was old enough to have a memory of our get-togethers. We grew up in the same hometown in El Salvador and migrated to the U.S.A. We stayed in communication over the years. I actually visit her last summer, celebrating life with her. She’s named my daughter, was my coach during the delivery, and we shared all things even though we were thousands of miles apart. I just want that one last chance to laugh together and hug each other… in this life at least. I know one day we will see each other again.”
After meeting the criteria, Give a Mile was able to grant Daysi a flight of compassion so she can hug her best friend one last time.
Daysi wrote back after hearing her approval: “Thank you for all the help here. You have know idea how grateful I am.”
