A First Meeting That Couldn’t Wait—Plusgrade

Flight Stories #1447 and #1448

Vancouver, British Columbia > Regina, Saskatchewan

Twelve years is a long time to go without seeing your mom.
Nicole shared that her mother, Coreen, is currently in the ICU at Regina General Hospital and relying on advanced life-support due to a severe respiratory illness. Doctors have shared that her condition is critical and uncertain. With the situation changing quickly, Nicole knew she needed to be there as soon as possible.
But this journey wasn’t just for her.
Nicole is a single mother living on assistance and raising her six-year-old daughter, Lola, who has special needs. Financial strain and distance had meant that despite being close and talking every day, they had not been able to hold each other and be in each other’s presence for 12 years and Coreen had never met her granddaughter in person. Their relationship existed through video calls and conversations from afar.
In her application, Nicole wrote that it will break her heart if she never has the chance to be in the same room with her mom again. She described her mother as a beautiful soul who has always cared deeply for others, even after facing serious health challenges in recent years.
Covering the cost of last-minute flights for both herself and Lola was not possible. She explained that even affording accommodations during the visit would be difficult.

Because of the generosity of Plusgrade, two flights were approved from British Columbia to Saskatchewan.

After receiving the confirmation, Nicole wrote:

“It’s amazing that you guys are doing this for people in need. It means more than you know.”

Through Plusgrade’s support, distance did not stand in the way of a daughter returning home — and a grandmother and granddaughter meeting in person for the very first time.
