A Mother’s Love

Flight Story #1303

Deer Lake, Newfoundland to Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario – $1,048.82 CAD

Delores was devastated when she heard the news. Her son, Calvin, had suffered a massive brain bleed, which doctors said was unsurvivable. He was in intensive care on multiple forms of life support, and his team was preparing for the end.
She needed to get there as soon as possible. But as a senior living on limited income, the cost of the flight from Newfoundland to Deer Lake seemed insurmountable. She faced the terrible possibility of missing her chance to say goodbye. Delores couldn’t bear the thought of him dying without her by his side.
When she reached out to Give A Mile, she explained why the flight meant everything. Calvin had no other family close enough to visit. She told us how devastating it was to get that call from the ICU, to know there was nothing more doctors could do. She needed to sit with him, to tell him he wasn’t alone, to offer him the comfort only a mother can give.
Thanks to the kindness of Lexus On The Park, who sponsored this flight, Give A Mile was able to make this flight happen for her. Lexus On The Park’s sponsorship covered the cost of Delores’s flight in full. Their support meant she didn’t have to choose between paying bills or saying goodbye. It gave her the freedom to focus on what mattered most: being there for her son.
Though nothing could change the heartbreaking outcome, Delores was given the gift of peace through her flight to Deer Lake. She got to say goodbye. She made sure Calvin didn’t leave this world alone.
We want to offer our deepest thanks to Lexus On The Park for sponsoring this flight of compassion. Your generosity turned heartbreak into connection. You made it possible for a mother to be at her son’s side in his final moments.
Thank you for making these final moments of love possible.
