Ann was 79 years old when she reached out to us. Living on a fixed seniors’ pension in Nanaimo, BC, she had always watched her spending carefully, but there was still nothing left for unexpected costs like airfare. She was determined, but she needed help.
Her only daughter was in Calgary, hospitalized with pneumonia and advanced lung cancer. Doctors had told the family there were no treatment options left. She had only weeks to live. Ann told us, simply and heartbreakingly: “She is my only daughter and I want to say goodbye.”
