Five Years Apart, One Last Chance Together— Irene’s WestJet Points Donation

Flight Story #1471

Prince George, British Columbia > Kitchener, Ontario — 115,000 WestJet Points and 65,033 Aeroplan Points

Five years is a long time to be away from family.
For Yvonne, that distance has been especially hard.
She hasn’t seen her brother, Phillip, or much of her family in over five years. Life, distance, and circumstances kept them apart. But through it all, the connection never faded.
Now, everything has changed.
Phillip is in hospice care and his time is limited. The moment Yvonne learned this, one thing became clear — she needed to be there.
Not just to see him, but to be with her family again during this incredibly difficult time.
“It would be a great comfort to all my family if I could be there,” she shared.
Yvonne remembers her brother as someone who brought joy into their lives.
“Phillip was always around to care for and make me and my siblings laugh,” she said, reflecting on the kind of person he has always been.
Those memories matter even more now.
The chance to sit together, to talk, to share stories, and to say goodbye in person is something Yvonne didn’t want to miss — especially after so many years apart.
But getting there wasn’t easy.
Yvonne lives in Prince George, British Columbia, and traveling across the country on short notice was not something she could afford. Living on a limited income, the cost of the expensive flight was out of reach.
Still, the need to go never changed. Because when time is this short, distance and cost should not stand in the way of being together.
Thanks to the generosity of Irene, Yvonne was able to travel from Prince George, British Columbia to Kitchener, Ontario to be with her brother and her family.
After the flight was arranged, her care team shared their appreciation, expressing how meaningful this journey was and how much it helped during such a difficult time.

“The family is beyond grateful and they are now all together. Thank you so much!!”

This flight is more than a journey. It is a reunion after years apart. A chance to be present. A moment to say goodbye, surrounded by family. As Yvonne said: “Thank you for the opportunity to be able to see him. He was so happy to see me and my sisters are also glad too that we are here for each other”
Because no one should have to face these moments alone — especially after so much time apart.
