A Son’s Final Journey Home—Irene’s WestJet Points Donation

Flight Story #1458

Calgary, Alberta > Victoria, British Columbia — 65,673 Irene’s WestJet Points

When Jesse learned that his mother had been moved to hospice care, he knew he needed to get to her as quickly as possible.
His mom, Patricia, had been battling serious health challenges for some time. Over the past year, she had been in and out of the hospital many times. Recently, her condition took a major turn, and she was transferred to Victoria Hospice with only a short time left.
For Jesse, the news was devastating.
His mother has always been the most important person in his life. In his application, Jesse shared just how much her love and guidance had meant to him through difficult moments.
“My Mom is my life,” he wrote. “Her love and guidance has helped me through so many difficult challenges.”
Just the year before, Jesse had been visiting his mom and stepdad when he noticed something wasn’t right. Trusting his instincts, he called an ambulance and helped get her to the hospital in time. She was diagnosed with several serious health conditions, and Jesse stayed with her for six months, helping care for her alongside his stepdad while she slowly recovered.
During that time, Jesse and his stepdad grew incredibly close, supporting each other as they focused on helping Patricia regain her strength.
Eventually Jesse had to return to Alberta due to the limits on how long he could remain out of the province. Since then, his mother’s health has continued to decline.
When he received the news that she had been moved into hospice care and was deteriorating quickly, Jesse knew he needed to get back to her right away.
But traveling across the country wasn’t something he could afford. Jesse lives on a fixed income with no room in his budget for an emergency flight.
All he wanted was the chance to be there — to hold his mom’s hand, share one more hug, and tell her how much she means to him.
Thanks to the kindness of Irene, who generously donated her WestJet points, Jesse was able to travel from Calgary, Alberta to Victoria, British Columbia to be by his mother’s side during this incredibly important moment.
A photo later shared by the hospice shows Jesse leaning close beside his mom, a quiet but powerful reminder of what these flights make possible — the chance for families to be together when time matters most.
Moments like these cannot be replaced. They are filled with love, gratitude, and the comfort of knowing that even in the hardest times, family can still be together.
