This is a story about Dorothy, her angel Jan and how Give A Mile gave Dorothy a chance to send her friend off at the end of her life…
Dorothy and Jan both came from Nova Scotia but destiny only brought them together in Toronto when their young daughters became pals there. Jan stood by Dorothy through an abusive relationship, and helped her friend find Alcoholics Anonymous when she had begun drinking too much to cope with the situation.  They remained in regular contact when Jan and her family moved to Alberta; so much so that when Dorothy’s grandson Isaac moved nearby, Jan became a surrogate grandmother to the young man. Years later Jan was diagnosed with cancer and Dorothy could not afford to come from Toronto.. but again, fate stepped in and her daughter read a magazine article about Give A Mile (GAM). Isaac quickly contacted GAM, travel points were converted, and Dorothy winged her way to be by her lifelong friend’s side. They shared many stories, hugs, tears and laughter as they said their final good-byes. Dorothy is so grateful to Give A Mile for allowing her to return the support her friend Jan had given over the years. And at GAM it is so gratifying to be able to connect friends and family when they need it most. Please allow us to continue by giving loyalty miles and more: DONATE NOW
