There was a time in Sabrina’s life when she could not care for herself, and her father was the person who stood beside her every day.
Now, at 84 years old and critically ill, her father, Abdur, was the one who needed care. And Sabrina wanted the chance to return the love he had once given her.
Abdur was living with kidney failure, diabetes, and significant arthritis. His doctors described his condition as extremely critical. Back home in Bangladesh, Sabrina’s mother was with him, but she had her own mobility challenges and needed help with daily activities.
For Sabrina, being so far away from both parents was deeply difficult.
She remembered her father as the man who raised her to be independent and taught her, through his own actions, to help others in their time of need.
But one memory stood above the rest.
During one of the darkest periods of Sabrina’s life, she became very ill and struggled to manage daily life. Her father stepped in.
“My father stood by my side and took care of me every day to help me recover.”
She described him simply as her “HERO.”
Now their roles had changed.
“I was once a baby and he took such great care of me. Now, it is my turn to be his caregiver and not let him feel abandoned.”
Sabrina also wanted to bring her father comfort about the person he would leave behind. He worried about his wife being alone, and Sabrina wanted him to know that she would be there to support her mother.
But getting to Bangladesh came with a major financial barrier. Sabrina wasn’t currently working, leaving her family dependent on her husband’s income. She had previously helped cover her father’s medical expenses but could no longer afford those costs or an international flight.
Thanks to the generosity of our donor, Scene+, Sabrina received a compassionate flight to Bangladesh, giving her the opportunity to be beside her father during this critical time.
For Sabrina, being there meant fulfilling something very close to her heart.
“This will mean the world to me being able to carry out my responsibility as their daughter.”
Her father had once cared for her when she needed him most.
Now, Sabrina could cross the world to do the same for him.
