When Krystle learned that her father had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, she knew she needed to get to his side.
Her father, Leslie, had been living with leukemia for 15 months. After undergoing a stem cell transplant, his condition deteriorated and his family feared they were running out of time.
For Krystle, the distance between Arkansas and New York felt even greater because it had been years since they had last seen each other.
“I haven’t seen my father in about 8 years.”
She remembered him as the person who was always there for her.
“My dad would always take me to school when I was younger, called and would talk for hours. He was my best friend.”
Now, she wanted the chance to be with him again.
At the time, Krystle was facing significant financial hardship. She shared that she was unemployed while recovering from surgery and was supporting her three children on a low monthly income.
Her father had one more wish.
“He keeps asking for my 3 kids and myself.”
