When Jennifer found out her great uncle had been sent home on palliative care, she knew she needed to be there. He wasn’t just her uncle—he had stepped into her life as a grandfather figure after her dad passed away from cancer. “He became the strong man in my life,” she said. “He always made me feel special and adored.”
Jennifer started looking at flights right away. They were affordable at first, but by the time her payday came around, prices had jumped to over $500. As a single mom working in long-term care and helping her kids through tough times, that extra cost wasn’t possible. Still, she told her uncle she would come—and he held onto that hope.
