Garland’s mother was always her biggest cheerleader. As one of eight children, it would have been easy to feel overlooked, but her mom made sure she always felt loved and valued. Whether it was celebrating her school achievements or simply reminding her how proud she was, her mother was a constant source of support and encouragement.
After Garland’s father died, her mother’s health declined rapidly. They had been married 66 years, and she wasn’t the same after he was no longer with them. Soon she entered hospice care and Garland knew she had to be there.
After months of helping care for her mom, the financial and emotional strain had become overwhelming. She had stepped away from work to be able to travel to her mom’s side, doing everything she could to support her from a distance in between trips. With no additional help, making the trip to Los Angeles felt impossible.
That’s when Give A Mile stepped in. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Garland received the flight she needed to be with her mom in her final days. “Gratefully humbled” by our supporters’ generosity, she was able to hold her mother’s hand, reminisce about cherished moments, and remind her just how deeply she was loved.
This flight was more than just a way to travel—it was a gift of time, connection, and closure. Moments like these are only possible because of the kindness of those who donate their miles and funds to make these reunions happen. Thank you for giving Garland the chance to say goodbye. 💙✈️
