A Grandson’s Journey to Stand Beside His Sister—Central Mountain Air

Just days after his sister Shalene made the journey home, David began preparing for his own.
Their granddad, Anthony, is receiving palliative care, and nurses have shared that his time is short. The family has been told he may have only days to a few weeks remaining.
Like Shalene, David grew up under his granddad’s steady guidance. In his application, he wrote simply, “I love him dearly. He helped raise me.” He described Anthony as a hardworking man who spent long days at the foundry before coming home to continue working in the yard or his shop to support the family.
Some of David’s clearest memories are hands-on ones. Shoveling gravel and sand into the concrete mixer. Breaking open used paint cans together to collect the marbles inside. Today, his own children have hundreds of those marbles to play with, small reminders of the man who shaped his childhood.
After being out of work for four months last year, David shared that he has no savings and could not afford the cost of travel. Supporting a family of five on a limited income made a last-minute flight impossible.

With the support of Central Mountain Air, who generously donated a flight voucher, David was able to make the journey as well. Though he and Shalene traveled at different times, both siblings were able to return home to be with their granddad during this final chapter.

Because of Central Mountain Air’s support, two grandchildren were given the chance to stand together for the man who once stood so firmly for them. In addition, Kelowna International Airport supported this journey by providing parking passes, easing the burden for the family during an already difficult time.

David was happy to receive two complimentary airport parking passes from Kelowna Airport to contribute towards his travel costs.
