When Paula received a call from her father, everything in her life stopped. He shared that his health had taken a sudden and serious turn, and doctors had told him he had only a short time left — just a few weeks. He asked if she could come soon, before he began to lose awareness. In his own words, he told her, “I’m slipping, and it’s happening very fast.”
For Paula, those words held a meaning she had waited her entire life to hear. Their relationship had been distant for many years, and she wrote that she had “been waiting my whole life to hear him express that” he wanted to see her. Now, with time running short, she hoped for the chance to sit with him, talk openly, and be together for the moments that remained.
Paula’s heart told her she needed to be there for her father. She expressed that they had “so much to talk about” and that this visit mattered deeply to them both. With urgency and hope, she reached out to Give A Mile.
