When Jessica learned that her mother’s condition had worsened, she knew time was running out.
Earlier in the year, her mother had been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. While doctors initially believed she might have several months, new complications had changed everything bringing her potentially to the last few weeks of her life.
For Jessica, the news brought a complicated mix of emotions.
In her application, she shared that her relationship with her mother had not always been easy and that reducing contact was how she had protected herself.
But one fear never left her.
“One of my worst fears of going no contact gained the potential to come true: that me and my mother would never have the chance to properly reconcile and repair our relationship.”
As her mother’s health rapidly declined, Jessica hoped for the opportunity to see her one more time.
She shared that she had not hugged her mother in at least ten years.
More than anything, she wanted the chance to be together and find some measure of peace.

"This flight will not only mean that I get to see and hug my mother for the last time, but also give us both the chance of some form of closure on a life lived in just wanting others to acknowledge the pain we went through and tell us that no matter what we are lovable and deserving of it."

At the same time, Jessica was facing financial hardship leaving no room for unexpected travel expenses.

Thanks to the generosity of Central Mountain Air, who donated a flight voucher, Jessica received a compassionate flight to British Columbia, giving her the opportunity to be with her mother during this difficult chapter.

After her travel plans were adjusted, Jessica wrote to the Give A Mile team with a message of gratitude:
“I’ve been struggling to keep myself composed since I found out. Now, even though I didn’t get to hug her, I can bring a piece of my mother home with me and not have to send her through the mail.”
