My Last Chance to See Him — Billy Bishop Airport

Flight Story #1498

Halifax, Nova Scotia > Vancouver, British Columbia

When Sierra learned that her father was in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit, she knew she needed to get to Vancouver as quickly as possible.
The situation was urgent.
In her application, Sierra shared that her father, Adona, was critically ill and that this might be her final opportunity to be with him.
She explained her reason for requesting a flight simply and directly:
“Being present while my father is in the intensive care unit and being with him on his last moments of life.”
For Sierra, there was no question about where she wanted to be.
“My father is likely going to pass away and it’s my last chance to see him.”
The cost of travel from Nova Scotia to British Columbia was a significant barrier. Living on a limited income, Sierra could not afford the trip on her own.
At the same time, her brother Taylan was also trying to reach Vancouver so they could be with their father together.
Thanks to the generosity of Billy Bishop Airport, Sierra received a compassionate flight to Vancouver, giving her the opportunity to spend precious time with her father during his final days.
When Sierra’s flight was approved, the hospital social worker supporting the family shared his reaction:

"That is amazing! Wow! I'm lost for words...!"
