The Grandchildren She Loved to Check In On — Lexus On The Park

Flight Story #1470

Edmonton, Alberta > Kamloops, British Columbia

For Devin, some of the best memories of his grandmother’s house are the simple ones.
Big family meals. Full plates. The feeling that you were always supposed to eat just a little more at Grandma’s table.
That was Joan.
Warm, loving, and always focused on her family.
Even now, whenever Devin speaks with her on the phone, her first questions are never about herself. Instead, she immediately asks about the children — how they are doing in school, what’s new in their lives, and whether she can talk to them.
“She’s a very loving caring person,” Devin shared.

Joan is 92 years old and facing serious health complications following COVID pneumonia. Her condition has worsened, and doctors are unable to move forward with surgery she needs because of how fragile her health has become.

For Devin, hearing how quickly things were changing was heartbreaking.
Joan is his last living grandparent, and more than anything, he wanted the chance to see her again while there was still time.
Their bond carries another special layer too.
Devin is the only grandchild who has given Joan great-grandchildren — something that has brought her tremendous joy over the years. Her love for the younger generation shines through every conversation and every family gathering.
But financially, making the trip from Alberta to British Columbia felt impossible.
Supporting a household of five, Devin simply could not afford the unexpected cost of emergency travel after learning about his grandmother’s declining condition.
Still, the need to go never changed.
Because some goodbyes matter too much to miss.
Thanks to the generosity of Lexus On The Park, Devin was able to travel from Edmonton, Alberta to Kamloops, British Columbia to be with his grandmother during this incredibly important time.
This flight is more than a journey.
It is a grandson getting the chance to sit beside the grandmother who filled his childhood with love, food, laughter, and family connection.
And for Joan, it is another opportunity to hear about the great-grandchildren she cares about so deeply.
Because family stories, love, and memories deserve to be shared face-to-face while there is still time.
