Flight Stories #1449 & #1450
Augusta, Georgia > Queens, New York – 49,800 Delta SkyMiles + $22.40 USD
Aurora and William never imagined their family would face so many health challenges at the same time.
Over the past year, Aurora and William have both been dealing with their own serious
health issues. Between medical treatments, appointments, and the cost of everyday life,
the weight on their family has been overwhelming.
But even in the middle of their own health struggles, their greatest worry has been their daughter, Nydia.
“She is such a warrior,” Aurora shared in her application. “While she was healthy she was
the one caring and running errands for everyone in the family.”
Today, Cookie is facing a devastating illness of her own. After months of treatment, her condition has worsened and she has returned home so she can be surrounded by family
during this difficult time.
Cookie now lives with her own daughter, who has taken on the role of caregiver while
working three jobs to support their household. Through it all, she has been by her mother’s side, helping with everything she needs
For Aurora and William, being so far away during this time has been incredibly painful. They live in Augusta, Georgia, while Cookie is in Brooklyn, New York. Traveling such a long distance simply wasn’t something they could afford, especially while they are unable to
work and are managing their own medical care.
All they wanted was the chance to see their daughter, hold her hand, and spend whatever
time they could together
In their application, they shared a heartfelt hope — that they could see their child one more time and remind her how deeply she is loved.
Thanks to the kindness of our donor Kevin, who generously donated his Delta SkyMiles, Aurora and William were able to make that journey to New York. His gift helped bring two parents to their daughter during one of the most important moments a family can face. On their return they expressed their gratitude to Give A Mile and our donor Kevin: “Thank you so much for the opportunity your program provided to our family.”
Flights like this remind us that compassion can travel incredible distances. Because of donors who share their miles, families facing life’s hardest moments are able to be where they need to be — beside the people they love.
