A Flight to Say Goodbye to the Man Who Was Always Steady—Central Mountain Air

Flight Story #1427

Prince George, British Columbia > Kelowna, British Columbia — $770.36 CAD Voucher Value

Some people are quiet pillars in our lives.
Shalene shared that her granddad, Anthony, is elderly and now receiving daily palliative care at home. Unable to care for himself, his wish is to remain at home during this final chapter.
Growing up, Anthony was a steady presence. Shalene described weekends spent with him and her grandmother during difficult times in childhood. One memory stood out: spray painting pine cones together to turn them into ornaments, and carefully opening an empty spray paint can just to retrieve the marble inside. Small moments that became lasting memories.

Today, distance makes those memories feel heavier. Shalene moved to Northern BC to secure steadier work so she could financially support her mom, which has meant living far from family. This has made last-minute travel out of reach.

With the generous support of Central Mountain Air, who donated a flight voucher, Shalene was able to travel home to be with her granddad before he passed. Her brother, David, is also making his way to join her so they can be there together as a family during this time. In addition, Kelowna International Airport supported this journey by providing parking passes, easing the burden for the family during an already difficult time.

After her flight was confirmed, she wrote:

“Thank you. I really appreciate this. Not sure how to express my gratitude.”

Because of Central Mountain Air’s support, distance did not stand between a granddaughter and the man who had always been her constant. And soon, two siblings will be there together.

Shalene was happy to receive two complimentary airport parking passes from Kelowna Airport to contribute towards her travel costs.
