Flight Stories #1374, #1375, & #1376
Smithers, British Columbia > Vancouver, British Columbia
For Uwase, Shalom, and Iraguha, this journey meant reaching the bedside of their much loved daughter and sister, ten-year-old Gabriella, whose strength has shaped their family. Gabriella is now in the ICU in Vancouver critically ill. For her family in Smithers, the distance between them suddenly felt too heavy to carry.
Uwase wrote in her application that Gabriella has been living with serious health challenges since she was very young. She explained that her daughter’s condition had worsened and that doctors wanted family close by.
Financially, the family could not afford the cost of flights for mum and Gabriella’s siblings to join their husband and dad at her bedside to say goodbye.
Working with the Social Work team in Vancouver and through the generosity of Toyota on the Park, this trip gave Uwase and her children the chance to be exactly where they needed to be — together, surrounding Gabriella with love and familiar voices. Their presence brings comfort not only to her, but to one another as they navigate a challenging and tender time.
When the flights were approved, the family felt profound relief, moving dad to tears to know that their family would be reunited at this difficult time.
Because of the generosity of Toyota on the Park, a family was able to be together to support Gabriella and each other. Each mile donated carried their family closer to connection, hope, and the warmth of being together.
We are deeply grateful to Toyota on the Park. Your kindness continues to bring families together when every moment matters most.
