Flight Story #1212
Medicine Hat, AB to Abbotsford, BC – One Way $1,592.76 CAD
Diane’s phone call brought a wave of concern. Her sister, her lifelong friend and confidante, was facing a health challenge in an Abbotsford hospital. While the situation was serious, Diane was determined to be by her side, to offer support and comfort during her recovery.
But there was a problem: the cost of a flight from Medicine Hat to Abbotsford was a daunting $1,592.76. Diane simply didn’t have the funds to make the trip. She had to be there for her sister, but how?
Through a friend, Diane learned about Give A Mile, an organization that helps people in need travel to be with loved ones during times of medical crisis. With renewed hope, Diane reached out to them, explaining the situation and her deep desire to be with her sister. She shared, “She is my older sister. We have been very close all of our lives and I feel I need to be with her at this time. I would like to get there as soon as possible to be there for her during her recovery.”
Give A Mile understood. They knew that sometimes, the cost of travel can be an insurmountable barrier between loved ones. Diane’s application was processed quickly and once her flight was approved, she was off to see her sister.
“Thank you so much,” she said with heartfelt gratitude. “You’re doing wonderful work. Once we’re back on our feet, we can’t wait to donate back to Give A Mile.” This experience solidified her belief in the power of community and the importance of paying it forward.
Diane’s flight was made possible by the generosity of an anonymous donor who paid for Diane’s flight at Give A Mile’s One Holiday Wish event in Toronto on November 8th. This act of kindness ensured that Diane could be with her sister when she needed her most, highlighting the incredible impact of giving during the holiday season.
Give A Mile didn’t just book a flight; they provided Diane with the opportunity to be a source of strength and comfort for her sister during a challenging time. And in doing so, they inspired a spirit of generosity, ensuring that Diane’s gratitude would one day translate into support for others facing similar circumstances.
Thank you guys so much, again I can't even say how grateful I am ❤️
