Nina hadn’t seen her mom in two years. So when her mother’s health rapidly declined from advanced breast and lung cancer, Nina knew she had to get to Canada—no matter how far or how hard the journey.
Living in Germany, Nina faced her own daily challenges that made traveling difficult. But there was no question in her mind about going. Her mother wasn’t just family—she was Nina’s best friend, her source of strength in every season of life. Nina shared before leaving: “My Mami is my best friend. I want to support her, hold her hand, and tell her how much I love her.”
Because of the incredible generosity of Toronto Pearson International Airport, this reunion became possible. Their support helped cover the cost of Nina’s flight so she could make it all the way from Germany to Canada.
Toronto Pearson’s sponsorship meant Nina didn’t have to choose between her finances and being at her mother’s side. It meant a daughter could travel across an ocean to offer comfort and love in her mother’s final days.
I don’t know how to express my gratitude for making it possible for me to visit my mom! We had such a blessed time together and I will always cherish the many special moments we had together. It wasn’t easy saying our goodbyes and we miss each other dearly but we have our shared hope that we will one day see each other again - here on earth or in heaven. This gives us great comfort!
