A Grandmother’s Goodbye to Her Granddaughter— Sponsored by Private Donor

Flight Story #1462

Sudbury, Ontario > Calgary, Alberta

Some goodbyes come far too soon.
For Armande, that reality is heartbreaking.
Her granddaughter, Lauren, is only 18 years old and is living with a serious illness. Her health has declined, and she is moving into hospice soon. Time is limited, and every moment now feels incredibly precious.
For a grandmother, there is nothing more important than being there.
Armande wants the chance to see Lauren, to sit beside her, and to say goodbye in person. It’s a moment no one is ever truly prepared for — especially when it comes so early in life.
This visit means everything.
Armande lives in Sudbury, Ontario, while Lauren is in Calgary, Alberta. The distance between them is long, and traveling on short notice comes with a cost that Armande simply cannot afford.
She is living on a fixed income and even with careful planning, a flight across the country is out of reach.
When it comes to family, especially in moments like this, being there matters more than anything else and Armande doesn’t want to miss the chance to see her granddaughter, to hold her hand, and to be present during this incredibly important time
Thanks to the generosity of Give A Mile donors, Armande was able to travel from Sudbury, Ontario to Calgary, Alberta to be with Lauren.
After the visit, her care team shared just how much this flight meant to the family.

“The family was so appreciative of the flight… the financial burden has been so big the past five years, and they really needed help with this.”

This flight is more than a journey.
It is a grandmother showing up for her granddaughter in her final chapter. It is love, connection, and presence — even in the hardest moments.
Because no goodbye should have to happen from a distance.
