Flight Story #1309
From Regina, SK > Moncton, NB $997.27 CAD
From Regina to Moncton, this is the story of the flight that gave Angela the chance to say goodbye to someone who had been family for nearly 30 years.
Angela was working two jobs in Regina when she got the heartbreaking news that her stepmom’s illness had taken a final turn. Her stepmom had been diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive lung disease that slowly scars and stiffens the lungs. Now, she was being admitted to hospice care. Doctors told the family she likely had only a few weeks left.
Angela knew she had to get to Moncton as soon as possible. This was her last chance to see the woman who had been like a second mother for most of her life. They hadn’t seen each other in over a year, when they played “tourists in their own town “around Moncton, and dove into history together for hours at a time. Angela loves how her stepmom’s love of learning made even simple outings special.
But last-minute flights from Saskatchewan to New Brunswick aren’t cheap. Angela explained she was already working two jobs just to keep up with bills and debt. There simply wasn’t any extra money left for a plane ticket across the country. Without help, she was facing the awful possibility of missing her chance to say goodbye.
When Angela reached out to Give A Mile, she shared how much her step-mom meant to her and her dad. She talked about their “amazing” love story, how even after decades together they still had pet names for one another. Angela wanted to be there not just for herself but to support her dad through what would be an incredibly difficult goodbye.
Thanks to the generosity of Toronto Pearson International Airport, we were able to say yes. Toronto Pearson’s sponsorship covered the cost of Angela’s flight, removing the financial barrier that stood in the way of this urgent, emotional journey. Because of that support, Angela could focus on what truly matters: love, family, and saying goodbye.
When Angela heard the news, she thanked us, simply saying “This is amazing. I am so appreciative.”
We want to offer our heartfelt thanks to Toronto Pearson International Airport for sponsoring this flight of compassion. Your support didn’t just pay for a ticket. It gave Angela and her family the chance to be together when they needed it most.
Thank you, Toronto Pearson Airport, for making moments like this possible.
