Beautiful Eliza – The Gift of Time and Family
For a little over a year, our granddaughter Eliza bravely fought a rare and aggressive cancer called poorly differentiated chordoma. Her treatments took place both at home in Australia and away in Florida. During much of that difficult time, David (Pop) and I were grateful to spend precious time with her and to care for her baby sister.
Four months after I had returned home to Canada, we received devastating news: the cancer had spread, and treatment would stop so Eliza could focus on comfort care at home. As her Make-A-Wish trip, Christmas, and 6th birthday approached, milestones her care team feared she might not live to see – she embarked on daily three-hour round trips to the city for radiation treatments.
Those treatments gave her the strength to experience those special moments and remain with us until March.
During that time, my daughter and her family needed me more than ever, and I so desperately wanted to be there. I was determined to make another trip happen, but financially it seemed impossible. That’s when a friend told me about Give A Mile, a charity that provides free flights so families can be together during life’s most critical moments. I applied and soon learned that, thanks to generous donors, Give A Mile would make my flight possible.
Because of this incredible gift, I was able to be by Eliza’s side during her final weeks and passing, supporting my granddaughters, my daughter, and my son-in-law. I am deeply grateful for the compassion and kindness of the donors who made this possible. Your generosity gave us time, memories, and comfort I will cherish forever. Then simply log in with your Aeroplan credentials and choose the amount of miles you wish to donate. Aeroplan Points donations are not tax deductible.

How Cash Donations Work

Cash donations allow Give A Mile to make flights of compassion happen, and also to cover travel-related taxes and fees that must be paid in cash. Your monetary donation is tax deductible and encouraged as it’s the most efficient way to support our cause.

Your cash donation helps cover travel fees and makes flights happen! Canadian Donations (via CanadaHelps) – A tax receipt is provided for donations.

US Donations (via GoFundMe): All donations receive a tax receipt. Simply complete the donation form,, and Give A Mile will instantly receive your gift.

If you’d like to pledge loyalty miles/points that are not Aeroplan or MileagePlus®, you must pledge a full flight as we are unable to transfer those miles or points. Your pledged miles or points will be
committed and used only when enough are collected for a flight. Our
booking agent will contact you when we are ready to use your pledge.
