When Tarah learned that her cousin Amy had entered hospice with stage 4 ovarian cancer, she knew she wanted to be by her side.
The two cousins had always been close, even though they lived far apart. Now, with Amy’s condition worsening, Tarah feared she was running out of time to see her one last time.
What made this journey even more extraordinary was that Tarah was facing her own journey with cancer.
She was undergoing treatment herself making the cost of travel impossible to afford.
In her application, she shared:
“Even though I have cancer myself, I’m praying I can see her before she goes.”
Amy didn’t have close family in Calgary. Most of her loved ones lived in Toronto, leaving Tarah wishing she could be there to offer comfort during such a difficult time.
She hoped her visit would bring more than just company.
“She will be so happy to see me there beside her. She knows we’re both fighting the same battle. I want to give her the motivation to stay strong and fight.”
More than anything, Tarah wanted the opportunity to tell her cousin just how much she loved her.
“I would love to see her so she knows I love her so much, and it means so much for me to see her for a short time and express my love for her.”
Thanks to the generosity of Toyota On The Park, Tarah received a compassionate flight to Calgary, allowing two cousins—both facing cancer—to spend precious time together when it mattered most.
Sometimes, the greatest gift isn’t finding the right words.
It’s simply showing up, sitting beside someone you love, and reminding them they don’t have to face life’s hardest moments alone.
