Flight Stories #1349 & #1350
Victoria, British Columbia > Calgary, Alberta — 74,029 Irene’s WestJet Points
For Grieg, this trip held deep meaning. He has been receiving palliative support in Victoria, and as his health continues to decline, he shared one important wish: to visit his daughters in Calgary while he is still well enough to enjoy their time together. Grieg hoped to spend meaningful moments with them — moments filled with connection, comfort, and love.
Grieg is supported by Victoria’s Palliative Outreach Team, including his social worker, Char, who helped him submit the request. Travelling alone would have been overwhelming, so his brother, Eugene, offered to accompany him to ensure he could travel safely and comfortably.
Both brothers expressed how important it was to make the trip together. It would allow Grieg to focus on being present with his daughters, knowing he had the support he needed. But with limited financial resources, the cost of two flights was more than they could manage on their own. Grieg shared that this visit was one of his most meaningful wishes as he looks toward the final chapter of his life.
Thanks to our Give A Mile donor Irene, flights were approved for both Grieg and Eugene. Their journey from Victoria to Calgary became more than travel — it became a gift of time, connection, and peace.
Because of this generosity, this important visit was possible. Each donated mile carried not only two brothers across the provinces, but a father toward the people he loves most. These moments — quiet conversations, shared smiles, and the simple comfort of togetherness — are the moments that are treasured by families.
We are deeply grateful to our donor Irene, part of our Give A Mile community, for making stories like Grieg and Eugene’s possible. Your kindness makes room for families to hold on to what matters most, one flight at a time.
