Victor’s Race to Reach His Daughter

Flight Story #1052

From Kelowna, BC to Vancouver, BC – $398.08 CAD

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and sometimes it takes a team to get you to that child.
An urgent text from the Social Worker at BC Children’s hospital came in early afternoon to follow up on an application just completed on behalf of a flight recipient.
Victor’s young daughter had been moved into Canuck Place hospice and sadly was not expected to survive. The Social Worker felt that the end of her life was quickly becoming imminent and needed our help to get Victor to her bedside as soon as possible.
Our Volunteer Flight booker immediately began searching for a flight that would be the quickest to get Victor to Vancouver. There was one leaving in a couple of hours, but from an airport 45 minutes away from where Victor lived. The Social worker called him and said to leave right away for the airport while she confirmed the demographics on his application form with us and the flight was booked.
While many flight applications can take days to be processed, approved and booked, with everyone working together we had Victor in Vancouver just 4 hours later, relieving him of the need to drive for almost 5 hours while frantically trying to get to his daughter’s bedside.

In Vancouver, Victor was reunited with his family at his daughter’s bedside, and was able to be with her for the end of her journey in hospice. He was there for her, but also for his wife and other daughter.

Thanks to our generous donors, this close-knit family was able to be together at a truly heartbreaking time in their life. Together for the final time.

Every donation helps people reach their loved ones for one last hug, smile, and farewell.
