I wish to travel with my sister Gloria to visit our dying brother in Calgary.
I grew up in foster care, along with my sister Gloria. We were lucky to have been able to stay in close contact growing up. In the 80’s Gloria was able to research to find our parents, and many siblings we didn’t know existed. I was able to find two of our sisters, who were also living in Toronto at the time. It was an unbelievable moment in life, having customers come to me saying they have seen a woman around that looks a lot like me, and to finally meet and find that she was in fact an older sister.
As a hair stylist with fluctuating income I was never able to travel out west to meet our brothers, but 6 years ago we were able to pull money together and have Clyde come to Ontario. It was a wonderful experience, we were so much a like. Our love for nature and the outdoors. He had a such a way about him, a kind spirit, full of stories and eager to learn of our lives. I was excited to finally meet my long lost brother.
It has been a tough few weeks, with finding out about Clyde’s failing body Friday and his move to a hospice facility. Especially watching Gloria feeling torn to visit Clyde or to risk leaving her husband. She did make the right decision to wait, as her husband passed away Monday afternoon. Now with the passing of my brother in law, I hope it is not to late to see our brother one last time. Last we spoke, doctors were surprised he is still holding on.
It would mean the world to me to be able to travel to Calgary to see him and say good bye.
