I’m a single mother of 4 children in Ontario and we would be flying to see my brother, Mick, who is in critical care in very serious condition in the ICU at Kelowna General Hospital.
Our family was very close growing up and we drifted apart over the ten years after he moved across the country to the West Coast form Ontario. I regret allowing physical distance to affect our close brother and sister connection. My worst fear is never being able to see him again; to hold his hand and tell him I love him to say goodbye my heart aches to be there by his side. To have the chance to have my girls meet their uncle, and to tell him how much he means to me would be an incredible dream come true. Although sad as it may be, I would cherish being able to be there in person with reassurance that I at least get to see my big brother one more time.
Growing up I remember that Mick would light up a room and had all the qualities that I wish I have been born with; he is tall, outgoing, smart, athletic, artistic, and his comedic talent was noticed by anyone who knew him.
