My name is Swithun and Jerome is my older brother who has stage 4 cancer. Prior to his hospitalization, before he fell ill, he requested me to come and be by his side. Jerome finds it very emotional to convey his present medical condition to family members. Jerome understands me and has always been someone who I admired from childhood, even down to the way that I now walk as an adult. Because as a child he was tall, slim, and walked upright and at that early age I modeled the way that I walk after him to this day. Over the years I have often spoke by phone with Jerome for hours at a time simply listening to him speak of childhood memories and of life in general. Jerome found it necessary at times to protect family by not disclosing his actual harsh experiences in life. I have never questioned him and was simply a listener to him whenever he needed an ear. Our family sees me as the strong one to be informative. It was just last year, 2017, that our sister Emlyn passed on from ovarian cancer stage 4 and I was instrumental in coordinating her remains to be transported to Nevis and Jerome and myself were Pallbearers for the funeral service. Despite the prognosis, we are still hoping for a miracle and Jerome has said that he will walk out of the hospital, so he continues to be strong. We will not accept defeat until and if it happens. Jerome is receiving lots of prayers from family and friends who continue to support and embrace him.
