4 1/2 years ago I escaped a 39 year abusive marriage from Penticton to Creston where I lived in a women’s shelter in the mature women’s transitional housing suite until subsidized housing became available. During my 4 years in Creston, Christy, the “Hi Neighbour Welcome” hostess (one of many hats she wore) met me and later helped me over & over & over again in many many ways. She became one of my two best friends in the world but also like a “sister” I never had. She is a kind, caring, compassionate generous lady who has been like a “Mother Theresa” to myself and many others in Creston & surrounding area for at least 25 years.
She has survived cancer twice and recently suffered a major stroke. She is presently in Swan Valley Lodge care home in Creston. On Tuesday last week, she requested the medical team at the care home to take out her feeding tube. She is paralyzed on one whole side, cannot eat or barely drink on her own, and her friends in Creston have told me she is getting weaker & weaker. She has no family so her friends & community are her family. Christy may not live much longer than a week.
I have been so blessed by knowing her and sharing in the life she lived so well. I dearly want to see my friend before she passes away to say goodbye. I am a 67 year old low income senior and she is 74. At this end stage of her life I would like to have the opportunity to provide to her the kindness and compassion she so freely gave away to me and so many others. I hope to carry on wherever I live, the legacy of kindness love and compassion she will leave behind.
