The flight recipient wants to go to Calgary to see his older sister. His sister was diagnosed with a stage 4 liver metastasis about a year ago. Because of this, she was on Chemotherapy. Through her course of treatment, the doctor notified her that she had an infection in her lungs so antibiotics were administered that would help fight off the infection. However, after several weeks of taking the antibiotics, it did not help with her fever. During the summer she went back to Toronto to visit her son, who goes to University of Toronto, where she found she had a fever with a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. She was taken to the hospital and they discovered that it was not a lung infection but instead a liver abscess. At this point the infection had already grew and the only way to fully get rid of the infection was to surgically remove it, instead of only administering antibiotics. However, due to the liver metastasis, operation on the liver was not an option because it would only make the cancer spread. She was too weak to fly back to Calgary so she had to stay in the Toronto hospital for a little bit more than a month. Through that time, she was able to gain some strength back to fly back to Calgary to hopefully finish her treatment. However, as time progressed, she grew weak again and chemotherapy was avoided because it would only make her body even weaker. Eventually, the weakness took over her body and she was admitted into the hospital on Friday, December 1. In the hospital, the doctor told the flight recipients niece and brother-in-law that his sister’s liver was failing and her body is shutting down. They also gave them a prognosis of about a few days to a week. After finding out about his sister’s condition and how her cognition is getting worse everyday, he is very eager to see his sister. He only gets to see his sister when she comes to Seattle for a couple of weeks over the summer to visit so he does not see her often.
