My name is Wendy and my dad is Gordon. He is currently in Southwood Hospice, and he has been there for 3 weeks. He is 82 years old. He was found in his home days after he had passed out and hit his head. He is now delusional with bouts of dementia. He is not always aware of who is in the room with him or even that he knows them. Bob, the Social Worker at Southwood reccomended that I visit soon while he still may be able to recognize me and say our goodbyes. My dad and I are close. I live in Barrie, Ontario but grew up in Calgary, Alberta. I visit whenever money will allow it, which is not as often as I would like. Since my father has gotten older, he has not been able to come visit me. My brother Adam contacted me to tell me that my dad is no longer eating or drinking. He has a DNR and his wishes are to not give him an IV. Adam believes my fathers death is imminent. He has requested I come out ASAP. I had BELIEVED my visit would be sometime next week but this has now quickened the need to be there as soon as I can. I have a place to stay while there and family support as well. All I need is a plane ticket to get there and back. It is now an emergency situation. I understand this is very short notice but I have been told the end is hours or a few days away.
