George is just over a year old and for the last several months, he has spent most of his days in the hospital. At about 4 months of age, it was discovered something was amiss and since then he has been diagnosed with 2 chromosomal abnormalities as well as a form of epilepsy called infantile spasms. The seizures he has been experiencing are debilitating and it is proving difficult to find the right combination of medications to control them. This coupled with several viral infections have kept George and his parents in hospital, as he is being constantly monitored and being treated for his ongoing medical conditions.
This family has been through a great deal. They recently moved to Calgary from a small town in Nova Scotia for employment. We feel just helpless and want to do something for this family to give them a support because what little support they have is being drained. So having some positive in all this heartbreak I feel will give both families some much needed strength for the continuous support they will need from a distance. How we would like to do this is by sending her best friend and family out to spend some quality time with them. Her best friend and her have celebrated many milestones together, both their children are roughly the same age. They talk often and Janice offers Katherine support from afar, I would like to bridge this gap.
This family would not have the opportunity to travel to Calgary to support this family emotionally without the support from Give a Mile. I was so ecstatic when I read about this program it warmed my heart to know we may have an opportunity to give these families time together, after feeling so helpless. Thank you again for all your support.
